Prevent Colon Cancer: Get Screened Today!
Screening colonoscopy saves lives!
Did you know?
A colonoscopy can prevent colon cancer and in some cases even cure colon cancer.
Prevention: Most colon cancers start as small, benign, mushroom like growths called “polyps”. It takes many years for a polyp to become cancerous. If this polyp is removed through a colonoscopy it will never have the chance to turn cancerous. Therefore a screening colonoscopy is recommended to detect and remove these precancerous polyps.
Cure: If a small and early cancer is found in a polyp it can sometimes be removed completely by colonoscopy thereby sparing the patient a major operation.
The American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons and the American Society of Gastroenterologists recommend a screening colonoscopy for every one above the age of 50. If you have a family member with colon cancer or polyps, screening should start earlier at age 40.
