We Specialize In Minimally Invasive Surgery For The Colon & Rectum

Services & ProceduresSpecialization Matters! Experience Matters!
Not every surgeon is qualified to perform complex operations on the colon & rectum. By virtue of their specialization and expertise, our surgeons can perform highly complex operations and use minimally invasive techniques for treatment of colorectal diseases.

When it comes to treatment of rectal and colon cancers, our surgeons can make the difference! When choosing a surgeon, do not compromise on experience and expertise. In fact, our doctors are one of the few surgeons in the country who perform a high volume of complex operations on the rectum and colon using the DaVinci ® Robot. We are leaders and pioneers in this field!

In minimally invasive or “Laparoscopic or Robotic” colon surgery, Dr. Azimuddin and Dr. Raphaeli make a series of small incisions in the abdomen. A small video camera, or “scope,” is placed in one of the incisions, providing the surgeon with a magnified view of the internal organs on a television monitor. Surgical instruments are placed in the other incisions, allowing the surgeon to work inside the abdomen and remove portions of the diseased colon. This surgical technique can be used to treat colon cancer and polyps and other diseases of the colon, such as Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, and diverticulitis.

This is the least invasive form of surgery available and has proven benefits when compared to traditional surgery. Patients undergoing laparoscopic or robotic surgery experience less pain and their recovery is quicker. They return to work earlier and are very satisfied with their recovery. The average hospital stay for minimally invasive colon surgery is three to four days, compared to a seven day hospital stay for traditional surgery. This method has also proven the ability to reach or exceed the traditional standards of lymph node removal, leaving patients with virtually no trace of cancer or room for recurrence.

If you’re considering minimally invasive colon surgery for colon disease, you should consult an expert colon and rectal surgeryon experienced in minimally invasive colon surgery techniques. Dr. Azimuddin and Dr. Raphaeli perform all types of advanced and minimally invasive laparoscopic and robotic operations.
